Student Council 2014

I met with the Student Council this morning, to negotiate their role in our school.

I look forward to regular weekly meetings with Hamza, Indio, Noah, Harsh, Santiago, Mounga, Miracle and Alexia, as they work on initiatives at Christchurch East School.

  • We welcome the Values Warrior to Christchurch East School, because it's not only our students who are Living the Values at our school. Anton Baker, Room 10 teacher, demonstrated Sense of Community, Integrity and Excellence as he was returning from the Port Hills with his family, heading past the school late one night. From the street, he saw a light on in the school's Teacher Resource Room, and thought that he'd better check it out. Thankfully, all was well, as it turned out that someone was working late into the evening at the photocopier.

  • Anton will be on the lookout this week for another staff member Living our Values, as he will be choosing the next recipient of the award. Staff members have already been spotted having only one biscuit at morning tea, so that there are sufficient for everyone else, in the hope that they will be able to share with their students the story of their Values Warrior award next week.

What an amazing display of Sense of Community!

Anton Baker has been co-ordinating the collection of Meadow Fresh stickers by students and their whānau.   The students told me this morning that they had collected enough stickers to cover the whole of New Zealand, and demonstrated this by laying the sticker sheets out in the shape of the New Zealand map.

Meadow Fresh are giving away art and sports equipment to some lucky schools;  our students have collected 5000 stickers to put us in the draw.   We have our fingers crossed ...

The application is being sent off today.   Thank you to our school community for once again helping out.

Cultural Celebration at Christchurch East

Kia ora everyone,

We have had an amazing start to the day today, as our students have visited other rooms across the school to share the cultures they have been studying this term.

Looking forward to seeing everyone this afternoon at the Cultural Festival Performance in the hall.

Upcoming Cultural Celebration

I have really enjoyed seeing (and hearing!) our students practising With Heart for the upcoming Cultural Celebration.   Emily and Jack are part of the Junior Kapa Haka group, and they hope you'll come along in the last week of term to see their and others' performances.   Look out for your special invitation coming home in Week 9.
